Once apon a time.......a tightwad tale.

Once upon a time there was a really thrifty lady who had 4 boys, a hard working husband and a dental insurance plan with limited coverage. This lady loved her cute little boys without favoritism. However, she felt very sorry for her second born son.

He was very handsome boy
until he opened his mouth.

In her experience as a tightwad, she often found ways to save money. Against the advice of her hairdresser, she learned how to color her own hair. In her single years, she changed her own oil. She had even made her own laundry soap for pennies a load. She really was a hands-on learner who could figure out many skills. She often found herself on the internet, learning new skills.

She was quite adventurous, but she just didn't want to tackle home orthodontia. After visiting 3 different dentists, interviewing numerous friends and family, she chose a very nice man to put braces on her sons teeth. She called the office back and got her quotes. There would be a 10% discount if you paid up front. Well considering the interest being earned on her savings, this would be a wise plan.
Dave Ramsey would be proud of her.
While she had the nice lady on the phone she just had a thought.

"Do you give a second child discount?"

"Yes we do." and she quoted the discounted rate.

After they arrived at the orthodontist, she mentioned the second child rate and that she was still waiting for her ship to come in.

"Would that rate be available at a later date?"

"Yes, we have put it on his chart."

After the braces were put on, the nice man and she discussed if there was a need for extractions at a later date. The nice orthodontist promised to help her in any way he could with referrals for her lame dental insurance company.

The moral of the story. Shop around and ask a lot of questions.

Also, it is a smart idea to leave some things to the experts.

Keep smiling,
TerriG

I love your thrifty advice!

you sound so much like my husband! We're both big Dave Ramsey fans, and while we both are savers, I am a more saver/spender type.
And bless your sons heart-- that looks SO painful with all those teeth in there :(

At the risk of boring any readers, I'll try to post some pictures as his teeth straiten.
He has been brave, living off jello helped.
